Contraceptive advice

We offer advice and support on a range of contraceptive options to help you choose the method that is right for you.

Our doctors and nurses can discuss both hormonal and non-hormonal contraception and help you decide which option best suits your needs and lifestyle.

Choosing the right contraception

There is no single contraceptive method that is right for everyone.

When discussing contraception, we may consider:

  • your age and medical history
  • whether you smoke
  • any medications you take
  • whether you would prefer a daily, monthly or long-term method
  • whether you are planning a pregnancy in the future

If you are unsure which option is right for you, we can talk through the available choices and answer any questions.

Contraceptive pill reviews

If you take the contraceptive pill, you will need an annual review so that we can continue to prescribe safely.

This includes:

  • a blood pressure check
  • a weight check

Our self-service POD in reception can be used during opening hours to measure your blood pressure and weight without needing an appointment.

Long-acting contraception

We also offer long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), including:

  • contraceptive coils
  • contraceptive implants
  • contraceptive injections

These methods can provide effective contraception for months or years without needing a daily tablet.
