Coil and implant service
We offer long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) at Corner Place Surgery, including contraceptive coils and contraceptive implants.
These methods are among the most effective forms of contraception and can provide protection against pregnancy for several years.
What are coils and implants?
Contraceptive implants
A contraceptive implant is a small flexible rod placed under the skin of your upper arm. It slowly releases hormones to prevent pregnancy and can work for up to 3 years.
Contraceptive coils
There are two types of contraceptive coil:
- Hormonal coil (IUS)
- Non-hormonal copper coil (IUD)
Depending on the type, a coil can provide contraception for between 5 and 10 years.

Our coil and implant clinics
Three GP partners at Corner Place Surgery provide coil and implant fitting clinics.
These clinics are usually held once a month.
Before fitting a coil or implant, we will discuss the available options with you and help you decide which method may be most suitable for your needs.
Considering a coil or implant?
A coil or implant may be suitable if you:
- want a highly effective form of contraception
- do not want to remember a daily pill
- would prefer a long-term contraceptive option
- are looking for a reversible method of contraception
A clinician can discuss the benefits and considerations of each option with you
